Only Murders in the Building Season 4 Episodes 1-7 Review

When shows that felt like one off seasons continue to grow past the first season the question has to be begged as to why, and for what purpose. This can all be ignored though if the season promises something more interesting and promising and delivers another engaging story, but if the story isn’t there nothing is going to keep audiences engaged in the long run. This is the problem Only Murders In the Building faced – a season was great, the second season was surpisingly also fantastic, season three was kind of a bore and now were onto our fourth season.

We got to watch the first seven episodes (the worst part is now having to wait til November to see how this season ends) but audiences will find themselves in a similar bind. The first four episodes – where they’re investigating the murder of a character known is mundane and doesn’t capture the magic of the first two seasons again. However, the great turning point for the show comes in episode 5 where everything takes a turn and what we think the main story and plot is, turns out to be something more daring and dastardly. Charles- Haden Savage (Steve Martin), Oliver Putnam (Martin Short) and Mabel Mora (Selena Gomez) are once again at the centre of a murder, as Sazz Pataki (Jane Lynch) has been killed, while trying to capture the feature film of their life rights.

Eva Longoria, Zach Galifianakis and Eugene Levy play our trio for the adaptation of their lives and are heavily involved in the season but they’re also sidelined as they original gang is trying to investigate the murder of Sazz. While a lot of chaos unfolds and happens, when something more bone chilling starts to unfold during their investigation in episode 5, is where the show really picks up and becomes more interesting and engaging. We will not go ahead and spoil anything, including any plot points but the journey at the beginning is a rocky start that eventually feels like it is going to pay off (we still haven’t seen the final 3 episodes) but episodes 5-7 certainly pack a punch that will leave audiences at the edge of their seat anticipating next weeks episode.

Only Murders in the Building started off as what was a great two seasons, with a third season slump but the halfway point of season 4 is more than enough reason to engage and watch the season. The turn is something that has nearly been expected since season 1 and is certainly going to hopefully pay off in dividends. Sit back, relax, have a mild anxiety attack with all the twists and turns and enjoy the forth season of Only Murders in the Building with a shocking (yet anticipated) mid season twist that certainly rejuvenates the audience excitement.

About The Author

My earliest movie memory, outside of my home theatre in my basement, was going to the local Video 99 and wanting to rent ET only to be told by the shop owner it was playing down the street in theatres. My love for cinema has been alive for as long as I can honestly remember. I would frequent the cinema minutes down from my house daily. It was a second home. Movies are an escape from the everyday world, a window into the soul, a distant friend. If I’m not watching a movie, I’m probably watching a tv show, if I’m doing neither I’m asleep.
