The Beach Boys play an intricate part in music history, their music plays throughout the world, even today. Frank Marshall and Thom Zimny direct this music documentary that will stream on DISNEY+ on May 24, 2024. The documentary is told through the surviving members and interviews throughout the years. It covers the band’s humble beginnings and showcases never-before-seen interviews with The Beach Boys’ Brian Wilson, Mike Love, Al Jardine, DavidMarks, Bruce Johnston, plus other luminaries in the music business, including Lindsey Buckingham, Janelle Monae, Ryan Tedder, and Don Was. Viewers will also hear from the group’s Carl and Dennis Wilson (who have sadly passed away) in their own words.
The Beach Boys documentary shows a band that not only changed and pathed pop music, but also delves into a very ahead of its time band dynamic. It’s well known that The Beach Boys never really surfed, although their music was labelled surf music, they never even wanted to be called by that band name at all.
The documentary does cover a good portion of each individual’s position in the band, which personally was interesting and eye-opening at the same time. Each individual in the band plays a specific role, It does spend a portion talking about Brian Wilson, but it doesn’t overshadow or diminish the roles of his bandmates, There are many bits of information about non-core members of the band that even fans might be aware of. It was a nice addition to add information about each and every band member and how they got recruited into the band.
Yes, some of the darker periods and people who The Beach Boys had run ins with are in here too (I’m talking about you Charlie Manson), but it doesn’t overshadow or dampen the legacy of this iconic band. It was nice seeing that The Beatles were even fans, which just shows how important this group and their musical catalogue are.
Viewers will laugh, cry and sing along to this exhilarating documentary. Strap in and get your best beach shirt out and prepare to rediscovery the iconic band starting on May 24,2024. . THE BEACH BOYS Music Documentary will air exclusively on Disney+
