In what seems like a desperate move to help sell more PS3s this holiday season Sony has pulled all their titles from the Netflix streaming queue, but only for Xbox 360 users. None of the other clients such as Samsung, LG, or TiVO using the streaming are going to be effected by this move.
Not surprising the move happened the same day the new Xbox Live Experience launched, Nov 19. According to a report by The Motley Fool it’s a move to help steer users away from the Xbox 360 and towards the Playstation 3.
In an article at Home Media Magazine a Sony Pictures representative said “The issue is not specific to Xbox or any other individual platform.” The rep also went on to say “Sony Pictures is currently in discussions with the relevant parties to resolve certain licensing issues related to the distribution of its motion pictures.”
I might put my foot in my mouth here, but to me that reads – “If Microsoft wants our movies then we want more $money$ for them”.
A spokesperson from Netflix, Steve Swasey, admitted there is “some truth” to the report, but did not elaborate further.
Eitherway, if Sony wanted to play this properly they should have pulled it from everything to make people less suspicious of a personal attack on Microsoft.
