We meet our protagonist in a dead end office job living a life he hates (a reflection of Shane’s life). He’s quickly scooped up by Jolie’s character Fox and spun in to a life of sweet action. The story starts up and never slows down. Just when you think the movie has reached its climax there’s a twist and the story winds back up. Not having checked my watch once throughout the film I’d say the runtime is near perfect. Needless to say I thoroughly enjoyed this movie and it caught me hook line and sinker.
The characters in this movie are really well played and for the first time in any movie Angelina Jolie was attractive to me. She no longer tried to play the girl next door, she instead played that untouchable, badass that you can’t take home to mom and dad. And that was hot! James McAvoy’s character, Wesley Gibson, was fairly well played, he looks a little too beat up for the role. If he could have toned that down it would’ve been spot on. The beauty of Wesley is that he is easy to relate to. We’ve always had a moment when we feel like our whole life has gone to ****.
Morgan Freeman (Sloan) play’s a fairly standard “Freeman” role, a wise, all knowing leader. He does have a “snakes on a plane” style line that will have you in stitches. The characters in this movie are very relatable and I felt quite involved with all of them.
Instead of wimping out and going with the all too popular PG-13 rating Wanted goes old school like Die Hard and uses the splatter-fest moments to enhance the action and story. Speaking story, it parallel’s the Matrix, but as far as action it goes for a more Sin City-ish style. You’re going to love it. It’s awesome. A must see!
