The main theme for the Q4 Product Showcase was Blu-ray. Some of you in the industry might shocked to hear that even though roughly 30% of households might have a Blu-ray player, but that nearly half of them are not even aware they can play their existing DVD collection on them.
Let’s kick things off closer to the end of October with Warner Bros. releasing Orphan on Blu-ray and DVD come the 27th. The Adult Swim Big Box Set is also set to hit store shelves on the same day with 6 full seasons of your favourite shows.
November is going to be a fun month with the Terminator Salvation: The Machinima Series bowing on 3rd. The 6-episodes use the technology from the game to create the story and it features Moon Bloodgood. If you haven’t had enough Watchmen yet WHV is releasing the Ultimate Cut on the same day. Steelers fans can look forward to The Story of Six Championships in 5-disc set.
If Star Wars fans wallets aren’t already dry enough WHV is set to release The Clone Wars: The Complete First Season Nov. 3. 22-episodes, 22 Jedi featurettes, and the PS3 game demo (BD only). North by Northwest will also debut on Blu-ray for a 50th anniversary edition in book-style packaging on the 3rd.
You’ve got less than a month to start saving for the release packed 3rd of November. Consider yourself warned.
Heat, The Negotiator, and Logan’s Run land on Blu-ray November 10th along with the 21st Edition of Don Cherry’s Rock’em Sock’em series. The Green Mile get’s a Blu-ray release with a 40-page book for packaging. Justice League fans can pick up the whole series when it comes to DVD on 15-discs also on the 10th.
Cameran Diaz and Abigail Breslin’s team up with see My Sister’s Keeper on DVD and BD the 17th of November along with the 70th Anniversary Edition of Gone with the Wind complete with a limited and numbered one-of-a-kind velvet packaging. You’ll also be able to grab the complete series of Rome on Blu-ray and DVD. To think we’re supposed to be in a recession.
If that kick-ass Sopranos box-set that was released last year wasn’t enough you can now watch Tony Soprano kick all kinds of butt in high-definition with the release of the first season on Blu-ray November 24th. Robert Rodriguez’s Shorts, Superman the Complete Animated Series (first time together in 1 collection) will debut on the same day.
McG directs McRant… errr Christian Bale in Terminator Salvation which foresees itself on Blu-ray and DVD on the 1st of December in an all-new director’s cut.
Will Harry Potter fans be Potter’d out come December? I’m not so sure, but you’re going to be able to pick up a whole bunch of stuff on Blu-ray including Year 6 (Half-Blood Prince) for the first time along with Ultimate Collector’s Edition on Blu-ray of Year 1, The Philosopher’s Stone (Sorcerer’s Stone – USA) and Year 2, (The Chamber of Secrets). You’ll also be able to pick up all 6-movies in a one Blu-ray and DVD package. Shall we dub December 8th, 2009 Harry Potter day? I’m thinking so.
Do you like comedy? Good cause this summer’s surprise comedy hit The Hangover on Blu-ray and DVD. Hopefully you don’t misplace this #1 R-rated comedy of all-time when hits the streets December 15th.
Rounding out our highlight reel is the second season of Chuck on Blu-ray and DVD. This season set will feature a limited edition version of the 3D episode that aired on Feb 2nd, 2009, along with 2 pairs of 3D glass (available on initial ship only). Chuck fans should know, this episode will never air again and can only be seen on Blu-ray and DVD.
