Here’s the question. What do you get when merge family life with being a superhero? You get THE INCREDIBLES, which is the latest film from Pixar Animation. Something that I keep finding harder and harder to say is “This is Pixar’s best movie yet!”, mainly because they do keep getting better and this is their sixth success.
Depending on what province you’re in here in Canada there are different ratings. Nova Scotia, as well as Ontario share a PG rating, which is also the case south of the border, while the remainder of the provinces share a G rating.
Having read comics as a child/young man (translation: teenager) and have watched the majority of comic book movies and cartoons on TV or in theatres it’s not hard to see the inspiration from them used in THE INCREDIBLES. In fact Fantastic Four, which will be hitting the silver screen next summer, appears to have inspired two of the character from the latest animated feature. Those characters being Elastigirl (Holly Hunter) and Violet who can turn invisible (Sarah Vowell) who are inspired by Mr. Fantastic (stretchy) and The Invisible Woman. The young boy Dash (Spenser Fox) is inspired by the Flash and Mr. Incredible (Craig T. Nelson) is like Superman without being bulletproof or the ability to fly, or run fast. In fact, I don’t think Mr. Incredible is anything like Superman. He just has some incredible, pun intended, strength.
OK, so now for the story, which I will not try and spoil anything for you. The premise behind the storyline is quite brilliant, at least I think so. Superheroes are forced into hiding after slew of lawsuits against forced to live normal lives. Just before this occurs Mr. Incredible ties the knot with Elastigirl.
Mr. Incredible, now known as Bob Parr, now lives his life as a normal human stuck in an itty bitty cubicle (to which some of us can relate) looking like most of do that are stuck in an itty bitty cubicle. He still longs for those golden days of old where he was saving people so when he has the opportunity to do so again he jumps at it without hesitation.
This is where the movie gets really exciting and has some of its most memorable moments. Blending their normal life – kids/marriage – into their saving the world lives adds for some great comedic moments. Needless to say I think everyone needs to see this movie. However, I do not recommend this for anyone under 10. I’d actually suggest parents check this out before bringing their kids as it’s not your typical Pixar fluffy cuddly movie.
I give it a 10/10. Yup a full perfect score.
