Warner Bros. and The Roald Dahl Story Company have written a young Willy Wonka story and they’ve cast the high in demand Timothée Chalamet to play the lead. He will join the likes of Gene Wilder and Johnny Depp in playing the eccentric candy genius.
Source revealed to Deadline that Wonka will be a musical and Chalamet will be showing off his singing voice and dance moves for the first time in film. The story is said to follow Wanka’s adventures prior to the opening of the world’s most famous chocolate factory.
Paul King (Paddington 1 and 2) will direct based on a script he co-wrote with Simon Farnaby with a planned release sometime in 2023.
