Written and directed by Marc Price whose probably seen a few too many action movies, comes the clever, fun, and ultra violent Nightshooters. The movie centers around a group of people seeing something they absolutely should not have seen and being absolutely clumsy and ridiculous about their way of seeing it, these people are just asking for trouble after realizing what they’ve witnessed and don’t make themselves scarce. However this leads to some hilarious dialogue, some great action sequences, and some home alone esque bits too for a relatively fun, albeit a tad long Nightshooters.
The film focuses on a low budget film crew doing a shoot in an abandoned warehouse for their horror flick, that consists of their director Marshall played by Adam McNab, their DP Jen played by Kaityln Riordan, the sound guy O’Hara played by Nicolas Aaron, a PA Kim played by Mica Proctor, a visual effects wizard Ellie played Rosanna Hoult, the star Harper played Doug Allen and his stunt double Donnie played by Jean-Paul Ly. While on break from shooting, one of them peers out the window into the next building and sees a Fat Tony inspired mob boss Tarker played by Richard Sandling executing a man, by dousing him in gasoline and lighting him on fire.
The film crew gets spotted watching this crime and the mob boss tasks his hired goons to take them out before they can notify the authorities and chaos ensues.
While this idea of someone seeing something they shouldn’t see is nothing new, it definitely is well executed in Nightshooters. It captures the B movie level aspect of the movie within the movie and carries it over the actual film, packing this silly fun action comedy to the brim with nuances and behind the scene esque killings. The audience is privileged to see the kills the way movie magic makes it happen and brings a new level of intrigue to the overdone genre. As well the cast just being at the ends wit with each other before their lives get thrown into chaos, is a really fun element as life on set is usually chaotic and sometimes can create a little hell. Everyone brings their all to this fun, action packed film and thusly makes it a very entertaining ride of complete chaos.
