Activison is back with its Action RPG button masher, Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2. Fans of the original and new comers alike will be able to jump right in and tangle with many of the worst baddies that the Marvel Universe has to offer. The story loosely follows the “Secret War” and “Civil War” storylines from recent comics. After a secret unsanctioned invasion of Latveria (lead by S.H.I.E.L.D.S Col Nick Fury) The Latverians reply with an attack on US soil. This all leads to the US Government introducing the “Mutant Registration Act”. A Topic which has the Marvel Universe divided. Who will you align with? Iron Man and the US government? Or will you side with Capt America and voice your displeasure with the new act?
Not much has changed from last year’s game. You still gain XP points to level up your heroes, the controls remain relatively the same but the game has seen a pretty big graphical overhaul for the better. You can Play as some of your favorite Marvel characters; Capt America, Iron Man, Wolverine, Spiderman, Deadpool, The Hulk, Daredevil, Gambit and many more. Unfortunately the quality of some of the lesser heroes at the bottom of the list is lacking (Iron Fist?), but that’s just nit picking. The newest thing the game has to offer is the ability to combine your hero’s powers in a sort of fusion to inflict maximum damage. With over 200 combinations of powers there are some very cool ways to take out your enemies.
To sum it all up, the Story is well done, good graphics, great cutscenes, destructable environments and the voice acting is great. At the end of the day if you are a marvel fan or just looking for a mindless release, then Marvel: Ultimate Alliance 2 is for you.
