CONTAMINATION – Review

Canada is a hotbed for homegrown talent, producing some truly great films. One such film comes from Brimstone Pictures, located in Edmonton, Alberta and founded in 2020 by Preston Ewasiuk, David Heacock, and Neil Chase. The first feature film the group released, called Boneyard Racers, won countless awards. Their newest feature film, entitled CONTAMINATION, will have its Worldwide Premiere: Oct 2, 2025 Southern California Film Festival, Los Angeles, CA.

Contamination takes place, deep in the remote wilderness, a covert black ops unit is deployed on a mission to eliminate a classified research facility. But what begins as a standard tactical operation quickly unravels into a nightmare. As the team ventures deeper into the compound’s ruins, they discover that something unnatural has escaped containment, an alien virus, invisible but highly contagious, now infecting them one by one. Cut off from the outside world and unsure who to trust, they must fight to survive not only the hostile terrain but the enemy now lurking within their own ranks.

Contamination is a clear homage to the classic action and sci-fi films of the 1980s. It’s packed with sharp banter between members of the black ops team and explosive action sequences that will keep audiences on the edge of their seats. The film’s crisp, polished production is especially impressive considering its independent roots; it looks and feels like a big-budget blockbuster, a true credit to everyone involved.

The camaraderie among the cast shines through, and it’s no accident. Many of the actors have worked together in previous Brimstone Pictures productions, and that familiarity pays off here. Co-director and star Neil Chase clearly understands the value of a trusted cast, something rare and invaluable when crafting a film that feels both fresh and grounded. Contamination oozes that energy.

Visually, the film stuns. Its wilderness settings and practical set pieces build a convincing world that enhances the story without ever overpowering it. The pacing is tight and relentless, gradually ramping up to a third act filled with tension and high-stakes action.

With Contamination, Brimstone Pictures proves what passion, talent, and commitment to storytelling can achieve. It’s a smart, fast-paced thrill ride that breathes new life into the UFO/alien genre while celebrating the best of ’80s action cinema. Get infected this fall. Contamination is not to be missed.
