Maverick Film and Complex Corp have officially acquired the highly anticipated horror film Speed Demon, setting the stage for a wide release in theatres, on demand, and across digital platforms on May 31, 2026.
Written by Domenico Salvaggio (Die) and directed by Jon Keeyes (The Cult Killer), Speed Demon brings together a compelling mix of tension, supernatural horror, and character-driven storytelling. The film stars Katie Cassidy (A Nightmare on Elm Street) and William H. Macy (Fargo), both delivering performances that elevate the film’s emotional and dramatic stakes.
“Speed Demon delivers exactly what audiences want from the horror genre,” said Richard Switzer, President of Maverick Film. “Jon Keeyes maintains relentless tension throughout, Katie Cassidy delivers a standout performance, and William H. Macy brings a grounded sense of gravitas. It’s a strong, engaging film we’re excited to share with audiences.”

Set aboard a train travelling from Montreal to New York City, Speed Demon follows Father Novak and Sister Lu as their journey takes a terrifying turn. When the train is overtaken by the demon Asmodeus, the passengers become possessed, transforming the ride into a nightmare on rails. As chaos unfolds, Sister Lu must confront her wavering faith and attempt something unprecedented—performing an exorcism as a nun—while battling a growing evil on a runaway train.
Director Jon Keeyes describes the film as “an intensely fun horror experience,” blending action, practical effects, and memorable characters. He also praised the cast, noting the depth and authenticity both leads brought to their roles, particularly in portraying flawed individuals pushed to extraordinary limits.
Behind the scenes, Speed Demon is backed by a strong production team, including Katie Cassidy, Cecil Chambers (Bunker), and Vanessa Coifman (Unthinkable), alongside Richard Switzer. Executive producers include Ian Niles (Lie Hard), Andy Thompson (Enemy Lines), James Norrie (The Void), Nina Kolokouri (The Void), Stephen Huszar (Unsinkable), Daniel Ford Beavis (Last Train to Fortune), Kevin Paulhus (Blended Christmas), Bayann Oluyadi, Saleem Elmasri (Bunker), Clay Pecorin (To Catch A Killer), Jonathan Marques, John Marques (Prayer and Reflection), and Tyler W. Konney (May December).
Switzer negotiated the acquisition deal with Essential Film Group on behalf of the filmmakers.

With its blend of supernatural horror, high-stakes action, and a unique premise set on a possessed train, Speed Demon is already shaping up to be one of the must-watch horror releases of 2026.
