Olivia Wilde’s The Invite (A24) Turns Awkward Dinner Parties Into Something Much Wilder This July

What starts as a simple neighbourly invite quickly spirals into something way more… complicated in The Invite, a bold new comedy from Olivia Wilde.

Hitting theatres this July, The Invite is a remake of The People Upstairs, the sharp-tongued Spanish comedy from Cesc Gay, but this version cranks up the awkwardness, the tension, and the no-holds-barred humour for a whole new audience.

The film follows a married couple stuck in a serious rut, whose relationship gets flipped upside down when their seemingly friendly neighbours extend an invitation… to their weekly orgies. What follows is exactly the kind of chaotic, uncomfortable, and brutally honest comedy you’d expect when boundaries get blurred, and secrets start spilling.

Wilde not only directs but also stars alongside a killer lineup that includes Seth Rogen, Penélope Cruz, and Edward Norton, a cast that practically guarantees sparks, both comedic and otherwise.

Behind the script are Rashida Jones and Will McCormack, the duo known for blending sharp dialogue with messy, very human relationship dynamics. Expect biting humour, uncomfortable truths, and a story that isn’t afraid to go there.

If The Invite plays its cards right, it could be one of the summer’s most talked-about comedies, the kind that has audiences laughing one minute and squirming in their seats the next.

THE INVITE — In theatres this July.
