Set against the tense backdrop of Moscow in 1977, Ponies follows two unlikely heroines working quietly behind the scenes at the American Embassy. Known in intelligence circles as “PONIES” — short for Persons of No Interest — Bea and Twila are dismissed as harmless secretaries, far from the dangerous world of espionage. But their lives are forever changed when their husbands are killed under mysterious circumstances inside the Soviet Union.
Forced to confront the truth behind these tragic deaths, the women are recruited into the CIA, stepping into a shadowy world of secrets, surveillance, and Cold War intrigue. Bea (Emilia Clarke) is a brilliant, Russian-speaking daughter of Soviet immigrants whose sharp intellect and cultural insight make her a valuable asset. Her partner, Twila (Haley Lu Richardson), is a bold, fearless small-town girl whose tough exterior hides a deep sense of loyalty and determination.
Together, the pair dive into a dangerous international conspiracy, uncovering hidden agendas and deadly betrayals. As they race to solve the mystery that made them widows, Bea and Twila discover their own strength, proving that even those once considered “unimportant” can change the course of history.
