Yeah… that Animal Farm.
The one you probably read in school just got a full animated overhaul, and it’s not playing things entirely straight this time.
Directed by Andy Serkis and written by Nicholas Stoller, this new take on Animal Farm reimagines the classic 1945 allegory as a fantasy-leaning, coming-of-age adventure, with a surprisingly stacked (and slightly chaotic) voice cast.

We’re talking Seth Rogen, Gaten Matarazzo, Kieran Culkin, Glenn Close, Laverne Cox, Steve Buscemi, Woody Harrelson, Jim Parsons, Serkis himself, Kathleen Turner, and Iman Vellani all lending their voices to the revolution.
But don’t expect a straight retelling. This marks the third adaptation of Orwell’s story, following the 1954 animated version and the 1999 live-action film — and this time around, it’s been reshaped into something more accessible (and arguably more chaotic). The film introduces new characters, including a young piglet named Lucky, steering the story into full coming-of-age territory while still orbiting the familiar themes of power, control, and corruption.
So yes, the politics are still baked in… but now they come wrapped in bright animation, big personalities, and a tone that swings between satire and straight-up adventure.

Whether that makes it more digestible or waters it down? That’s going to be the real debate.
Either way, the farm is open for business again — and it’s bringing a whole new generation with it.
ANIMAL FARM — In theatres May 1, 2025.
