While official box office numbers have yet to be release it looks as though Fast & Furious has broken two records. The largest April box office record and Universal’s largest opening weekend ever.
Via Twitter, Universal Pictures, is reporting that Fast & Furious starring Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, Jordana Brewster, and Michelle Rodriguez (“New model… original parts”) broke the April opening weekend record with an estimated $72.5 million, which also makes it the largest Universal Pictures opening in their history.
Consequently, this fourth installment in The Fast and The Furious franchise opened larger than the entire theatrical run of Tokyo Drift, the third film in the series, and fifty percent of the total box office run of the first movie.
The previous April box office record holder was Anger Management back in 2003 with $42 million.
