Acclaimed filmmaker Kiyoshi Kurosawa returns with The Samurai and the Prisoner, a gripping historical mystery adapted from the novel by Honobu Yonezawa. Plot Synopsis

As Japan is torn apart by civil war, Lord Murashige Araki (Masahiro Motoki) dares to rebel against the ruthless warlord Nobunaga Oda. His act of defiance leads to a relentless siege, trapping Murashige and his followers within the walls of their own fortress.

With Oda’s army tightening its grip, a series of shocking murders and mysterious crimes begin to unfold inside the castle. Fear spreads among Murashige’s retainers as suspicion grows that a traitor is hiding within their ranks.

Desperate to uncover the truth before the fortress falls, Murashige turns to an unlikely ally: the imprisoned strategist Kanbei Kuroda (Masaki Suda), a brilliant tactician whose intelligence may be the key to exposing the conspiracy.

Supported by his devoted wife Chiyoho (Yuriko Yoshitaka) and his most trusted generals, Murashige must solve the deadly mystery while defending his people against overwhelming odds. As loyalties are tested and betrayal lurks behind every door, the fate of the castle and everyone inside it, hangs in the balance.
