The dead aren’t always the ones we should fear.
A chilling new supernatural horror film is arriving in theatres this September with NEVER AFTER DARK, a haunting ghost story from director Dave Boyle. Starring Moeka Hoshi, Kurumi Inagaki, Kento Kaku, Tae Kimura, Mutsuo Yoshioka, and Bokuzō Masana, the film follows a wandering medium whose ability to communicate with the dead leads her into a terrifying confrontation with something she has never encountered before.
The Plot
Airi (Moeka Hoshi), a wandering medium who spends her life helping restless spirits cross over, has become accustomed to living alongside the dead. She is rarely alone, however, as she is accompanied by the spirit of her deceased sister, Miku (Kurumi Inagaki).
When Airi is summoned to an isolated country house by its new owner, Teiko (Tae Kimura), she expects another routine exorcism. Instead, she encounters a grotesque supernatural presence possessing powers that challenge everything she knows about the spirit world.
Teiko’s son, Gunji (Kento Kaku), remains skeptical of Airi and her abilities. But as Airi begins investigating the history of the house, she uncovers a disturbing secret buried within its past.
What begins as an attempt to remove a dangerous spirit soon becomes something far more sinister.
Airi is no longer simply trying to understand the supernatural presence haunting the house. She has become its target.
And as the danger closes in, Airi discovers that her greatest threat may not come from the dead at all, but from the living.

A New Kind of Ghost Story
NEVER AFTER DARK appears to take a more atmospheric approach to supernatural horror, building its scares around isolation, grief and the unsettling relationship between the living and the dead.
At the center of the story is Airi’s unusual connection to her deceased sister. Her ability to communicate with spirits is both a gift and a burden, allowing the film to explore the emotional consequences of remaining connected to someone who has already passed away.
The isolated country house provides an ideal setting for the story, creating a confined environment where the line between reality and the supernatural can become increasingly difficult to distinguish.

Moeka Hoshi Leads the Cast
Moeka Hoshi stars as Airi, the wandering medium at the heart of the story. Hoshi’s performance gives the film a central character who must confront not only a terrifying supernatural force but also the emotional weight of her connection to her sister.
The cast includes:
- Moeka Hoshi as Airi
- Kurumi Inagaki as Miku
- Kento Kaku as Gunji
- Tae Kimura as Teiko
- Mutsuo Yoshioka as Mysterious Man
- Bokuzō Masana as Police Officer
Director Dave Boyle
NEVER AFTER DARK is directed by Dave Boyle, who brings his filmmaking experience to this atmospheric supernatural thriller.
The film looks to blend traditional ghost-story elements with a more psychologically unsettling mystery, gradually revealing the secrets surrounding the isolated house and the forces occupying it.
A Haunting Supernatural Horror Experience
With its wandering medium protagonist, restless spirits, mysterious country house and increasingly dangerous supernatural presence, NEVER AFTER DARK has all the ingredients for an eerie theatrical horror experience.
But the film’s most intriguing element may be its suggestion that the living can be more dangerous than the dead.
As Airi digs deeper into the house’s history, she finds herself caught between supernatural terror and human secrets, forcing her to question exactly who she can trust.
Release Date
NEVER AFTER DARK opens exclusively in theatres on September 25, 2026.
