What begins as an unexpected situation quickly becomes a non-stop nightmare, forcing Bryan to navigate an increasingly dangerous world where survival is far from guaranteed.
Rather than retelling the stories of the previous Resident Evil movies, this new film is described as an all-new story and reinvention of the franchise.
Zach Cregger Reinvents Resident Evil
Filmmaker Zach Cregger steps behind the camera for this new take on Resident Evil. Following his acclaimed horror hit Barbarian and his work on Weapons, Cregger brings his distinctive approach to suspense and horror to one of the world’s most recognizable survival-horror properties.
Cregger also co-wrote the screenplay with Shay Hatten, known for his work on action-heavy genre films.
The result is expected to place a greater emphasis on survival, tension and escalating horror, while establishing a completely new story within the Resident Evil universe.

A New Chapter for the Resident Evil Franchise
The new Resident Evil represents a significant change of direction for the long-running franchise. Instead of adapting one of the established game storylines, the movie is being positioned as a reinvention, giving Cregger and his collaborators an opportunity to create a fresh survival-horror experience.
For longtime fans of the games and newcomers alike, the appeal will be seeing how Cregger translates the franchise’s familiar horror DNA into a new cinematic story.
