Disney has stood strong behind Blu-ray since launch and they keep moving forward with the technology. When the animated classic Sleeping Beauty releases on Blu-ray October 7th this year Walt Disney Home Video will be pushing BD Live’s capabilities the furthest yet.
There will be a plethora of internet features bundled into the first classic animation title to hit the blue discs. Just head inside to see the way WDHV is looking to the Blu future. The famed castle from Sleeping Beauty will serve as your menu backdrop. However, those of us with profile 2.0 (internet capable) players will be able to tell what the weather outside your window is like without looking out the window. The sky will reflect what’s happening right outside your home even if it’s snowing, or a bright and gorgeous sunshiny day.
Once you start the feature presentation you’ll be able to chat with friend viewing the same film right on your TV. You’ll be able to use a laptop, blackberry, and other PDAs. That’s not all, you can also insert customized video messages from within the movie with a new feature from Disney called “movie mail”. Think you know more about Disney flicks then challenge friends and strangers? Then challenge them to the built in trivia games. For those of you who can’t get enough trailers you’ll have endless supply through the BD Live service.
Now for the bad news. Anyone who purchased a Blu-ray player other than the PlayStation3 prior to this summer when the first stand alone players hit the market with an internet connection won’t be able to watch the or play with the BD Live features.
