Greta Gerwig, the Oscar nominated Lady Bird and Little Woman director, is taking on Mattel’s Barbie story with Margot Robbie attached to star.
The news broke that she’d official take the director’s role by Robbie in Vogue’s Aug 2021 (British) issue. Gerwig has been attached to the Warner Bros. project as a co-writer with Noah Baumback back in 2019 and rumors speculated she might be get the directing gig.
Margot Robbie goes on to say that Barbie:
“comes with a lot of baggage! And a lot of nostalgic connections.”
“But with that come a lot of exciting ways to attack it,” she explained. “People generally hear ‘Barbie’ and think, ‘I know what that movie is going to be,’ and then they hear that Greta Gerwig is writing and directing it, and they’re like, ’Oh, well, maybe I don’t…’”
